Released in 1981, this album is a collection of classic Christmas songs and a few original tracks, all delivered with Rogers' signature style.
The album opens with "Christmas Everyday," a song that sets the tone for the entire collection. It's a cheerful and uplifting track that captures the spirit of the season, encouraging listeners to embrace the joy and goodwill of Christmas all year round. Rogers' smooth vocals are perfectly complemented by the rich orchestration, creating a sound that is both timeless and heartwarming.
One of the standout tracks on the album is "White Christmas," a classic holiday song originally written by Irving Berlin. Rogers' rendition is faithful to the original, yet he brings his own unique touch to the song. His voice is full of warmth and sincerity, making it easy to imagine a snowy Christmas morning, even if you're in a warmer climate.
Another highlight is "O Holy Night," a traditional carol that showcases Rogers' vocal range and emotional depth. The arrangement is simple yet powerful, allowing Rogers' voice to take center stage. His performance is both reverent and moving, capturing the true meaning of Christmas.
The album also features "When A Child is Born," a song that has been covered by many artists over the years. Rogers' version is particularly poignant, with his heartfelt delivery and the lush orchestration creating a sense of hope and wonder. The song's message of peace and new beginnings is especially relevant during the holiday season.
"Christmas" also includes "Carol of the Bells," an instrumental track that adds a touch of classical elegance to the album. The arrangement is intricate and beautifully executed, showcasing the talents of the musicians involved. It's a nice change of pace from the vocal tracks and adds variety to the album.
One of the original songs on the album is "Kentucky Homemade Christmas," a track that tells a story of a family's simple yet meaningful holiday celebration. Rogers' storytelling ability shines through in this song, painting a vivid picture of a humble Christmas filled with love and togetherness. It's a reminder that the true spirit of Christmas isn't about material gifts, but about the people we share it with.
The album closes with "Silent Night," one of the most beloved Christmas carols of all time. Rogers' rendition is gentle and soothing, providing a peaceful end to the album. His voice is accompanied by a soft and delicate arrangement, creating a sense of calm and tranquility.
Overall, Kenny Rogers' "Christmas" is a delightful holiday album that captures the essence of the season.
