Description

"The Cat Empire - Steal The Light" Album Review

The Cat Empire, an Australian band known for their eclectic sound and energetic performances, released their fifth studio album, "Steal The Light," on May 17, 2013. This album continues to showcase the band's unique blend of genres, including ska, jazz, funk, and Latin influences, which have garnered them a dedicated global fanbase.

"Steal The Light" opens with the track "Brighter Than Gold," a vibrant and infectious song that sets the tone for the album. The song features a driving rhythm, catchy horn lines, and the distinctive vocals of lead singer Felix Riebl. The energy and enthusiasm of this track make it a standout and a perfect introduction to the album.

The second track, "Prophets in the Sky," maintains the high energy with its upbeat tempo and dynamic instrumentation. The song's lyrics reflect themes of hope and resilience, which are recurrent throughout the album. The band's ability to blend meaningful lyrics with danceable music is one of their strengths, and "Prophets in the Sky" is a prime example of this.

"Steal The Light" also includes more introspective tracks, such as "Am I Wrong," which features a more subdued and reflective tone. The song's lyrics explore themes of self-doubt and introspection, and the arrangement allows for a more intimate listening experience. This contrast in mood showcases the band's versatility and ability to convey a wide range of emotions through their music.

One of the highlights of the album is "Wild Animals," a track that combines a catchy melody with thought-provoking lyrics. The song's chorus is particularly memorable, and the interplay between the vocals and the instrumental sections creates a rich and layered sound. The use of brass instruments, a signature element of The Cat Empire's music, is especially effective in this track.

"Steal The Light" also features the song "Still Young," which has a nostalgic and wistful quality. The lyrics reflect on the passage of time and the desire to hold onto youthful ideals. The song's arrangement, with its gentle guitar lines and subtle percussion, complements the reflective nature of the lyrics.

The title track, "Steal The Light," is another standout on the album. The song's upbeat tempo and infectious rhythm make it a perfect anthem for live performances. The lyrics, which speak to the idea of seizing the moment and living life to the fullest, resonate with the band's overall message of positivity and celebration.

Throughout the album, The Cat Empire's musicianship is on full display. The band's ability to seamlessly blend different genres and create a cohesive sound is impressive. The horn section, in particular, adds a distinctive and dynamic element to the music, and the rhythm section provides a solid foundation for the band's eclectic sound.

"Steal The Light" received positive reviews from critics and fans alike. The album's energetic and uplifting vibe, combined with its thoughtful lyrics and diverse musical influences, make it a standout in The Cat Empire's discography. The band's ability to create music that is both fun and meaningful is a testament to their talent and creativity.

In conclusion, "Steal The Light" is a vibrant and engaging album that showcases The Cat Empire's unique sound and musical prowess. The album's blend of genres, thoughtful lyrics, and infectious energy make it a must-listen for fans of the band and newcomers alike. Whether you're looking for music to dance to or songs that make you think, "Steal The Light" delivers on all fronts.
