Description
Nas’ debut album “Illmatic” is widely regarded as one of the greatest and most influential hip-hop albums of all time. Released in 1994, it was a testament to Nas’ skill as an MC, his ability to craft vivid and introspective lyrics, and his ear for soulful, jazz-inflected beats. In 2014, "Illmatic XX" was reissued in a special 20th anniversary edition called “Illmatic XX”, which includes remastered versions of the original tracks, as well as a second disc of rare remixes, demos, and unreleased tracks.
For fans of classic hip-hop, the “Illmatic XX” reissue is an essential addition to any collection. The remastered versions of the original tracks sound crisp and clear, allowing you to hear every detail of Nas’ rhymes and the rich, sample-heavy production. "Illmatic XX"’s themes of street life, social injustice, and personal struggle are still as relevant today as they were in 1994, and Nas’ powerful delivery ensures that his words hit just as hard now as they did 20 years ago.
The second disc of “Illmatic XX” is where things get really interesting for die-hard fans. It includes a number of rare remixes, alternate versions, and previously unreleased tracks that shed new light on Nas’ creative process and the making of the original album. Highlights include a stripped-down demo of “It Ain’t Hard to Tell”, an alternate version of “The World Is Yours” with a different piano sample, and a remix of “One Love” with a new verse from Q-Tip of A Tribe Called Quest.
From a technical standpoint, the “Illmatic XX” reissue is top-notch. The vinyl pressing is clean and free of surface noise, and the packaging is beautifully designed, with a gatefold sleeve and liner notes that provide context for "Illmatic XX"’s creation and legacy. Whether you’re a longtime fan of Nas or a newcomer to hip-hop, the “Illmatic XX” reissue is an excellent way to experience one of the most important albums in the genre’s history. Buy your copy today!
