Description
"It's Hard" is the tenth studio album by British rock band The Who, released in 1982. Coming after a period of hiatus and internal conflicts within the band, "It's Hard" represents a notable shift in their sound and songwriting approach. While it may not have achieved the same level of critical acclaim as some of their earlier works, "It's Hard" still showcases The Who's musical prowess and their ability to craft anthemic rock tunes.
"It's Hard" kicks off with the energetic track "Athena," which sets the tone for "It's Hard" with its catchy guitar riffs and memorable chorus. The song retains the band's signature power and energy, with Pete Townshend's guitar work and Roger Daltrey's distinctive vocals shining through. "It's Hard" features a mix of rockers like "Eminence Front" and "Dangerous" that showcase the band's raw and driving sound.
Lyrically, "It's Hard" explores themes of societal unrest, political disillusionment, and personal introspection. Tracks like "It's Your Turn" and "One at a Time" delve into the challenges of relationships and the complexities of the human experience. While "It's Hard" may lack some of the conceptual depth found in The Who's earlier releases, it still captures their ability to convey emotion and provoke thought through their lyrics.
One of the standout tracks on "It's Hard" is "Eminence Front," a song that features a mesmerizing synth-driven groove and serves as a biting commentary on the facade and pretense of the music industry. The song's infectious rhythm and memorable melody make it a standout in The Who's catalog.
While "It's Hard" may not reach the same heights as their classic albums like "Tommy" or "Who's Next," it still showcases the band's ability to create anthems and deliver powerful performances. The musicianship on "It's Hard" is solid, with John Entwistle's bass lines providing a strong foundation and Kenney Jones' drumming driving the songs forward.
Overall, "It's Hard" is a solid rock album that may not have received the same level of recognition as some of The Who's earlier works, but it still holds its own as a testament to the band's enduring sound and songwriting. While it may not be their most groundbreaking release, it offers a glimpse into a period of transition and showcases The Who's ability to create memorable and powerful rock music.
