Description
Halestorm's "ReAniMate 3.0: The CoVeRs eP" is the third installment in the band's series of cover EPs, released on January 6, 2017. The EP features six tracks, each a cover of a song from a different artist, showcasing Halestorm's versatility and ability to put their unique spin on a variety of genres.
The EP opens with a cover of Whitesnake's "Still of the Night." Halestorm's rendition stays true to the original's hard rock roots while injecting their own energy and modern production values. Lzzy Hale's powerful vocals shine, capturing the essence of David Coverdale's performance while adding her own flair.
Next up is a cover of "Damn I Wish I Was Your Lover" by Sophie B. Hawkins. Halestorm transforms the 90s pop-rock hit into a heavier, more guitar-driven track. The band's interpretation brings a new intensity to the song, with Joe Hottinger's guitar work standing out alongside Hale's emotive delivery.
The third track is a cover of Joan Jett & the Blackhearts' "I Hate Myself for Loving You." This song is a natural fit for Halestorm, given their shared rock 'n' roll attitude. The band delivers a faithful yet invigorated version, with a driving rhythm section provided by bassist Josh Smith and drummer Arejay Hale.
Halestorm then takes on Twenty One Pilots' "Heathens," a song originally featured on the "Suicide Squad" soundtrack. The band reimagines the track with a heavier rock edge, incorporating distorted guitars and a more aggressive vocal approach. This cover highlights Halestorm's ability to adapt contemporary hits to their signature style.
The fifth track is a cover of Soundgarden's "Fell on Black Days." Halestorm pays homage to the grunge legends with a respectful and powerful rendition. Lzzy Hale's vocals convey the haunting melancholy of Chris Cornell's original performance, while the band's instrumentation captures the song's brooding atmosphere.
The EP closes with a cover of Metallica's "Ride the Lightning." Halestorm tackles this thrash metal classic with gusto, delivering a high-energy performance that honors the original's intensity. Arejay Hale's drumming is particularly noteworthy, driving the song forward with relentless precision.
"ReAniMate 3.0: The CoVeRs eP" is a testament to Halestorm's ability to reinterpret songs from a wide range of genres while maintaining their own distinct sound. The EP showcases the band's technical prowess and Lzzy Hale's dynamic vocal abilities, making it a must-listen for fans of both Halestorm and the original artists they cover.
