Description

"The Mighty Mighty Bosstones - While We're At It" is the tenth studio album by the American ska punk band The Mighty Mighty Bosstones. Released on June 15, 2018, through Big Rig Records, the album marks the band's first release since their 2011 album "The Magic of Youth." Known for their energetic blend of ska, punk, and rock, The Mighty Mighty Bosstones have been a staple in the ska punk scene since their formation in 1983, and "While We're At It" continues to showcase their signature sound.

The album was produced by Ted Hutt, who has worked with other notable punk and rock acts such as The Gaslight Anthem and Dropkick Murphys. "While We're At It" features 13 tracks, each infused with the band's characteristic brass section, catchy melodies, and socially conscious lyrics. The album's cover art, designed by renowned artist Richie "Rik" Lix, features a vibrant and colorful illustration that captures the lively spirit of the music within.

One of the standout tracks on the album is "Green Bay, Wisconsin," which opens with a driving rhythm and quickly builds into a high-energy anthem. The song's lyrics reflect on themes of unity and resilience, a common thread throughout the album. Another notable track is "Wonderful Day for the Race," which combines upbeat ska rhythms with introspective lyrics about the human condition and the importance of togetherness.

"Unified" is another highlight, featuring a powerful horn section and a message of solidarity and hope. The song's infectious chorus and upbeat tempo make it a quintessential Bosstones track, perfect for live performances and sing-alongs. "Closer to Nowhere" slows things down a bit, offering a more reflective and melodic tune that showcases the band's versatility and depth.

The album also includes "The Constant," a track that addresses the ever-changing nature of life and the importance of staying true to oneself. With its catchy hooks and thought-provoking lyrics, the song is a testament to the band's ability to blend meaningful messages with infectious music.

"While We're At It" has been praised for its production quality, with Ted Hutt's influence evident in the polished yet raw sound of the album. The band's musicianship is top-notch, with each member contributing to the cohesive and dynamic sound that has defined The Mighty Mighty Bosstones for decades. Dicky Barrett's distinctive gravelly vocals are as strong as ever, delivering each lyric with conviction and passion.

Critics have noted that "While We're At It" is a timely and relevant album, addressing social and political issues with a sense of urgency and optimism. The band's ability to tackle serious topics while maintaining a sense of fun and energy is one of their greatest strengths, and this album is no exception.

In conclusion, "While We're At It" is a solid addition to The Mighty Mighty Bosstones' discography, offering a mix of high-energy anthems, introspective ballads, and socially conscious messages. The album showcases the band's enduring talent and relevance in the ska punk scene, proving that they still have plenty to say and plenty of music left to make. Fans of the band and the genre will find much to enjoy in this latest release, and it serves as a reminder of why The Mighty Mighty Bosstones have remained a beloved and influential act for over three decades.
