Description
The sly bass slide under Sundown’s chorus still catches you off guard. Gordon Lightfoot’s Sundown finds his 1974 storytelling shadowed by sleek, unshowy pop touches. Sundown’s wary lyric about jealousy feels as current as ever. Carefree Highway breezes on 12-string shimmer, the melody floating like a long drive home. This LP pressing gives the arrangements breathing space, and the low end sits deeper without muddying the strings. Seven Island Suite stretches patiently, proof he could go long-form without bloat. You can hear the road and the barroom in these tempos, never rushed. It belongs next to James Taylor and the early-70s singer-songwriter shelf, with a darker sway and subtly muscular rhythm sections. If you’d rather order online, you can buy Gordon Lightfoot records online with us. Spin it on a quiet weeknight and let the title track’s tension carry the room. Details feel purposeful, from the hushed harmonies to the small guitar flurries between verses. His baritone stays centered and unforced, which is where these songs do their best work.
Available to order online or in our Melbourne record store, your crate needs this one.
