Description

Plastic Bouquet is a collaborative album that brings together the talents of Canadian folk duo Kacy & Clayton and New Zealand singer-songwriter Marlon Williams. Released in December 2020, this album showcases a seamless blend of their individual styles, resulting in a captivating and cohesive musical experience.

From the opening track, "Isn't It," it becomes evident that Plastic Bouquet is a collection of beautifully crafted songs that effortlessly combine elements of folk, country, and Americana. The harmonies between Kacy Anderson and Marlon Williams are simply stunning, their voices intertwining with a natural chemistry that is both haunting and enchanting.

The album's production is clean and polished, allowing the intricate instrumentation to shine through. The musicianship on display is exceptional, with each song featuring a rich tapestry of acoustic guitars, pedal steel, fiddle, and delicate percussion. The arrangements are tastefully done, providing a lush backdrop for the heartfelt lyrics and emotive vocals.

One of the standout tracks on Plastic Bouquet is "I Wonder Why." This song showcases the trio's ability to create a melancholic atmosphere, with its haunting melody and introspective lyrics. The stripped-down instrumentation allows the raw emotions to take center stage, resulting in a deeply moving and introspective listening experience.

Another highlight is the track "Arahura." This song takes a more upbeat approach, with its infectious rhythm and catchy hooks. The interplay between Kacy & Clayton's harmonies and Marlon Williams' lead vocals is particularly captivating, creating a dynamic and engaging sound that is hard to resist.

Throughout the album, the songwriting is consistently strong. The lyrics delve into themes of love, loss, and longing, painting vivid pictures and evoking a range of emotions. The storytelling is compelling, drawing the listener into each song's narrative and creating a sense of connection.

Plastic Bouquet also benefits from its diverse range of musical influences. While rooted in folk and country traditions, the album incorporates elements of blues, gospel, and even hints of psychedelic rock. This fusion of genres adds depth and complexity to the songs, making each track a unique and captivating listening experience.

The album's pacing is well thought out, with slower, introspective tracks balanced by more upbeat and energetic moments. This creates a sense of ebb and flow, keeping the listener engaged from start to finish. The sequencing of the songs is also worth noting, as each track flows seamlessly into the next, creating a cohesive and immersive listening experience.

In conclusion, Plastic Bouquet is a remarkable collaboration between Kacy & Clayton and Marlon Williams. Their combined talents result in an album that is both musically rich and emotionally resonant. From the haunting harmonies to the impeccable instrumentation, every aspect of this album is meticulously crafted. Plastic Bouquet is a testament to the power of collaboration and a must-listen for fans of folk and Americana music.
