Description
Kenny Rogers' posthumous album, Life Is Like A Song, released on June 2, 2023, is a heartfelt collection that serves as a poignant reminder of the legendary artist's enduring talent and emotional depth. This album, curated by his widow Wanda Rogers, features a selection of previously unreleased tracks recorded between 2008 and 2011, showcasing Kenny's signature warmth and storytelling prowess.
Listening to Life Is Like A Song feels like reconnecting with an old friend. The album opens with the title track, a tender ballad that encapsulates Kenny's ability to weave life lessons into his music. His voice, rich and resonant, carries a sense of wisdom and comfort that has always been a hallmark of his artistry. The production is understated yet elegant, allowing the lyrics and Kenny's delivery to take centre stage.
One of the standout tracks is "Tell Me That You Love Me", a duet with Dolly Parton. Their voices blend beautifully, evoking the magic of their past collaborations. It's a touching reminder of their musical chemistry and the deep friendship they shared. Another highlight is "Goodbye", a song that feels particularly poignant given the context of its release. Kenny's performance is deeply moving, and the lyrics resonate with themes of love, loss, and remembrance.
The album also includes a cover of Eric Clapton's "Wonderful Tonight", which Kenny delivers with a gentle sincerity that makes it his own. It's a testament to his versatility as an artist and his ability to connect with a wide range of material. The production throughout the album is polished yet intimate, creating a sense of closeness that draws the listener in.
What makes Life Is Like A Song especially compelling is the care and thoughtfulness that went into its creation. Wanda Rogers' involvement in selecting the tracks and overseeing the project ensures that the album feels cohesive and true to Kenny's spirit. It's clear that this is a labour of love, a way of honouring Kenny's legacy and sharing his music with the world once more.
While the album is undeniably a celebration of Kenny Rogers' career, it also serves as a reminder of the universal themes that his music often explored. Love, family, resilience, and the passage of time are all present here, making the album not just a tribute to Kenny but also a reflection on the human experience.
Life Is Like A Song is a beautiful addition to Kenny Rogers' discography. It's a bittersweet experience, knowing that these are some of the last recordings we'll hear from him, but it's also a gift to his fans and a testament to his enduring legacy. For those who have loved Kenny's music over the years, this album is a must-listen. And for those who may be discovering him for the first time, it's a wonderful introduction to an artist whose music has touched countless lives.
