Description
Duane Allman’s sly slide scoop into the first chorus of Statesboro Blues still makes the hairs stand up. The Allman Brothers Band At Fillmore East was cut across March ’71 shows with Tom Dowd at the desk, capturing a group unspooling long forms without losing bite. This 2LP Red Splatter Vinyl edition does the room justice: space opens up around Gregg’s organ and Betts’ lines, and the low end sits deeper.
Whipping Post’s slow-burn crescendo lands harder here, while the drum-and-bass pocket under In Memory of Elizabeth Reed keeps the solos buoyant rather than blustery. Artwork looks sharp on the gatefold, and the red variant doesn’t feel gimmicky so much as celebratory. File it beside the Grateful Dead’s Europe ’72 if you love early-’70s telepathy, but expect more grease and less drift.
Prefer to order from home? You can buy The Allman Brothers Band records online with us. In Melbourne, this stays a shop-floor reference play for how live guitars can be both searing and conversational, and why dual drums matter when the jams stretch.
If you’ve been waiting to upgrade a tired copy, this pressing makes an already essential live album a little easier to fall into again.
