Description

LateNightTales is a compilation album curated by the renowned British musician and producer, Bonobo. Released in 2013, this album is part of the LateNightTales series, which features various artists selecting and mixing their favorite tracks to create a cohesive and immersive listening experience. Bonobo's contribution to the series showcases his eclectic taste and impeccable curation skills, resulting in a mesmerizing journey through diverse genres and moods.

The album opens with the hauntingly beautiful "Ghost Ship in a Storm" by pianist and composer Matthew Bourne, setting the tone for the introspective and atmospheric journey that lies ahead. Bonobo effortlessly transitions between tracks, creating a seamless flow that keeps the listener engaged throughout the entire album.

One of the standout tracks on LateNightTales is Bonobo's own remix of "Don't Wait" by Mapei. This remix perfectly captures the essence of Bonobo's signature sound, blending organic instrumentation with electronic elements to create a soulful and captivating atmosphere. The inclusion of this remix showcases Bonobo's talent as both a producer and a curator, as he seamlessly integrates his own work into the mix without disrupting the overall flow.

LateNightTales also features a diverse range of artists and genres, including the jazz-infused "The Plug" by Bonobo collaborator, Quantic, and the dreamy electronic sounds of "The River" by Hidden Orchestra. These tracks, along with many others on the album, demonstrate Bonobo's ability to curate a collection of songs that complement each other while still offering a unique listening experience.

One of the highlights of LateNightTales is the inclusion of rare and lesser-known tracks, such as "The Traitor" by Menahan Street Band. This soulful instrumental piece adds a touch of nostalgia and warmth to the album, showcasing Bonobo's dedication to unearthing hidden gems and introducing them to a wider audience.

LateNightTales also features spoken word interludes, adding an extra layer of depth and storytelling to the album. The inclusion of these interludes, such as the excerpt from "The Revolt of the Atoms" by Alfred Bester, adds a cinematic quality to the listening experience, further immersing the listener in Bonobo's carefully crafted world.

Throughout the album, Bonobo's impeccable mixing skills shine through, as he seamlessly blends tracks together, creating a cohesive and immersive sonic journey. The transitions between songs are smooth and natural, allowing the listener to get lost in the music without any jarring interruptions.
