Description
"Get The Message: The Best of Electronic" is a compilation album that was released on March 29, 2019. This album brings together the best tracks from the British electronic music duo Electronic, which consists of Bernard Sumner of New Order and Johnny Marr of The Smiths. The duo formed in 1989 and is known for their unique blend of rock and electronic music, which has left a significant mark on the music scene.
The compilation features a selection of their most popular songs, including hits like "Getting Away With It," "Disappointed," and "Feel Every Beat." Each track showcases the duo's ability to merge catchy melodies with electronic beats, creating a sound that is both innovative and accessible. The album serves as a great introduction to their work, especially for those who may not be familiar with their discography.
One of the standout tracks, "Getting Away With It," is particularly noteworthy. Released as a single in 1990, it became a defining song for the band and is often regarded as one of their best. The track features a catchy chorus and a blend of electronic and guitar-driven sounds that exemplify the band's style. The song's themes of escapism and the desire for freedom resonate with many listeners, making it a timeless classic.
The critical reception of "Get The Message" has been largely positive. Major publications have praised the album for its cohesive selection of tracks that highlight the duo's evolution over the years. For instance, NME and The Guardian have both noted how the compilation captures the essence of Electronic's sound while also showcasing their ability to adapt and innovate within the genre. The album has been described as a must-have for fans of 90s music and those interested in the intersection of rock and electronic genres.
In terms of historical significance, Electronic played a crucial role in the development of the electronic music scene in the UK during the late 80s and early 90s. Their collaboration brought together two influential figures from different musical backgrounds, which helped to bridge the gap between rock and electronic music. This fusion not only influenced their contemporaries but also paved the way for future artists who would explore similar sounds.
The production of the album is also worth mentioning. The tracks were produced with a keen ear for detail, and the combination of Marr's jangly guitar work and Sumner's distinctive vocals creates a rich sonic landscape. The album was remastered for this compilation, ensuring that the sound quality is top-notch, allowing listeners to fully appreciate the intricacies of the music.
Interestingly, both Sumner and Marr have shared anecdotes about their time working together. They have often spoken about the creative freedom they experienced while making music as Electronic, which allowed them to experiment with different sounds and styles without the constraints of their previous bands. This sense of freedom is palpable in the music, making it feel fresh and exciting even decades after its initial release.
As for awards, while Electronic may not have received a plethora of mainstream awards, their influence and contributions to music have been recognized in various ways over the years. They have been nominated for several awards and have garnered a loyal fanbase that appreciates their innovative approach to music.
In conclusion, "Get The Message: The Best of Electronic" is not just a collection of songs; it’s a celebration of a unique collaboration that has left an indelible mark on the music landscape. Whether you’re a long-time fan or new to their music, this compilation is a fantastic way to experience the best of what Electronic has to offer. With its catchy hooks, thoughtful lyrics, and innovative production, it’s a reminder of why Electronic remains a beloved name in the world of music.
