Description

The bass sidestep in Buddy X’s hook tells you what Homebrew is about, supple grooves with bite and Neneh Cherry riding them with effortless poise. Cut with long-time collaborator Cameron McVey and the late Jonny Dollar, her second album folds hip-hop, dub and the Bristol haze into pop songs that still feel grounded and personal.

Money Love snaps with crisp breakbeats and a sly melody, while Trout brings Michael Stipe into a dusky, half-lit duet that lands way left of any 90s crossover playbook. Cherry’s voice stays conversational but incisive, flicking from sung lines to head-nod cadences without strain.

This red vinyl pressing flatters the production in simple ways: low end sits deeper and imaging feels clearer, so the percussion and samples breathe. It belongs next to Massive Attack on your shelf, tapping the same era’s mood but with Neneh’s sharper, more intimate point of view.

If you’d rather order online, you can buy Neneh Cherry records online with us.

Still a start-to-finish listen, and quietly braver than many albums that got louder accolades. File it under grown, groove-forward pop you can live with for years. Spin it loud or low; it holds the room either way.

Available to order online or in our Melbourne record store, your crate needs this one.
