Description

The half-second breath before she reaches “At” in At Last tells you everything. On her 1960 debut, Etta James marries torch-song strings with tough, bluesy phrasing. Riley Hampton’s arrangements glide, but the vocal cuts. Those horn jabs on I Just Want to Make Love to You, and the ache curling through All I Could Do Was Cry, still stop a room. This LP pressing opens the room, with strings given more space and the low end sitting deeper. Piano and brushed drums in A Sunday Kind of Love feel more present without crowding Etta. File it next to Sam Cooke, though James leans harder into nocturnal drama than churchy uplift. If you’d rather order online, you can buy Etta James records online with us. Original cover art still looks sharp, and the sequencing flows like a late set in a small club. Put it on for a quiet dinner or to recalibrate the room after a long day. Etta James’ At Last is still the gateway to Chess-era elegance and grit.

Add it to your collection today, available online or in our Melbourne record store.
