Description
Gil Scott-Heron’s The Revolution Will Not Be Televised gathers Flying Dutchman-era cuts with Ron Carter and Bernard Purdie locked in the pocket. The Revolution Will Not Be Televised still jolts in its studio form, the congas and flute darting around his deadpan. Lady Day and John Coltrane glides on Brian Jackson’s piano, a soft lift that keeps the message moving. Home Is Where the Hatred Is lands hardest; Carter’s bass climb under the chorus is a quiet gut-punch. This pressing gives the voice more space and the low end sits deeper, so small accents and room tone feel newly alive. Sequenced from the first Flying Dutchman LPs, it plays like the sharpest entry point for his spoken-soul period. If you’d rather order online, you can buy Gil Scott-Heron records online with us. File it beside The Last Poets and the early 70s politicised soul-jazz era, because it bridges poetry and groove without grandstanding. Even the quicker spoken sketches punctuate the flow, breaking up the ballads with dry wit and steel. It belongs in any starter stack for socially charged soul and jazz, but it rewards close, late-night plays too.
