Description

Lake Street Dive's album "Good Together" was released on April 7, 2018, and it marks a delightful continuation of the band’s unique blend of pop, jazz, and rock influences. This album showcases their signature sound, characterized by catchy melodies, rich harmonies, and a playful yet introspective lyrical style. The band, known for their energetic live performances and charismatic presence, has crafted an album that feels both fresh and familiar, appealing to long-time fans and new listeners alike.

From the very first track, "I Can Change," you’re greeted with a vibrant, upbeat sound that sets the tone for the entire album. The song features a catchy hook and a groove that makes it impossible not to tap your feet along. Rachael Price’s vocals shine here, showcasing her impressive range and emotional depth. The lyrics explore themes of personal growth and the desire for change, which resonate with many listeners. It’s a perfect opener that encapsulates the essence of Lake Street Dive’s music: fun, relatable, and deeply human.

One of the standout tracks on the album is "Good Kisser," which has a funky, retro vibe that feels like a nod to the disco era. The instrumentation is tight, with a punchy brass section that adds a layer of richness to the sound. The playful lyrics about flirtation and attraction are delivered with a sense of humor that is quintessentially Lake Street Dive. This track has received praise for its infectious energy and has become a fan favorite during live performances.

The album also features the poignant ballad "Shame, Shame, Shame," which showcases the band’s ability to slow things down while still maintaining emotional intensity. The song’s introspective lyrics delve into feelings of regret and vulnerability, and Price’s delivery is both powerful and tender. It’s moments like these that highlight the band’s versatility and depth, proving they can tackle a range of emotions with grace.

Critically, "Good Together" has been well-received, with many reviewers noting the band’s growth and maturity in songwriting. Major publications like NPR and Rolling Stone have praised the album for its polished production and the seamless blend of genres. NPR highlighted the band’s ability to create music that feels both timeless and contemporary, while Rolling Stone noted the infectious joy that permeates the album.

The production of "Good Together" is another noteworthy aspect. The album was produced by Mike Elizondo, known for his work with artists across various genres, including Fiona Apple and 50 Cent. Elizondo’s influence is evident in the album’s crisp sound and the way each instrument is given space to shine. The production choices enhance the band’s natural chemistry, allowing their individual talents to come together in a cohesive way.

Lake Street Dive has also been recognized for their contributions to music, with nominations for various awards, including the Boston Music Awards. Their ability to connect with audiences through relatable lyrics and engaging performances has solidified their place in the contemporary music scene. The band’s journey from their beginnings in Boston to their current status as a beloved indie-pop group is a testament to their hard work and dedication.

One fun fact about the band is that they originally formed while attending the New England Conservatory of Music, where they bonded over their love for jazz and pop music. This background in music education shines through in their sophisticated arrangements and harmonies, setting them apart from many of their peers.

In conclusion, "Good Together" is a delightful album that captures the essence of Lake Street Dive’s charm and musical prowess. With its catchy tunes, thoughtful lyrics, and impressive production, it’s an album that invites listeners to dance, reflect, and enjoy the ride. Whether you’re a long-time fan or just discovering their music, this album is sure to leave you with a smile and a sense of connection. So, if you haven’t already, give it a listen—you won’t regret it!
