Description
Cut at their G-Son studio with Mario Caldato Jr., Check Your Head is where Beastie Boys picked the instruments back up and let the dust fly. Punk, organ-funk and rugged rap share air, and on this 4LP edition the low end sits deeper and the space between the layers finally breathes. Jimmy James kicks like a garage band breakbeat, while the fuzz-bass climb in Gratitude still rattles shelves. So What’cha Want arrives with that swampy vocal grit and a snare shuffle that makes you nod before the verse even lands. Elsewhere Money Mark’s springy keys give the instrumentals a fresh bounce when the room needs to exhale. If you’d rather order online, you can buy Beastie Boys records online with us. In a Melbourne collection it files neatly beside early-90s Public Enemy, but the difference is the live-in-the-room feel and scrappy instrumental jams. The 4LP spread rewards volume, and the artwork presentation does the Grand Royal aesthetic justice. Still funny, occasionally feral, and surprisingly musical, it’s the Beasties’ most playable front-to-back set. Buy Beastie Boys records online today or call past Preston to grab a copy.
