Description

Cut as an intimate duo in 1960, Ella Fitzgerald pairs only with pianist Paul Smith for a late-night set that strips every torch song to essentials. Ella Fitzgerald Sings Songs From Let No Man Write My Epitaph is her most whispered record, all breathy corners and unhurried phrasing. Black Coffee creeps in on a hush, the pause before the second chorus feeling like a held breath. On Angel Eyes she leans into a bluesy rubato while Smith slips a spare, glassy turnaround underneath. I Got It Bad (And That Ain’t Good) lands with a tiny catch on the title line that says more than a big finish ever could. This LP pressing gives the voice room; space opens up, and keystroke transients come through clean without harshness. Prefer ordering from home? You can buy Ella Fitzgerald records online with us. File it beside Billie Holiday’s late torch years and early-60s after-hours jazz; this one lives there, quietly devastating. For anyone who wants a master trusted by the mic and nothing else, this belongs on the next nighttime spin. It’s a quiet showpiece for how softly she could still command a room.

Available to buy online with quick delivery Australia wide, or pick it up in our Melbourne record store.
