Description
Dave Bailey’s brush flutter before the head on No. 1 Green Street tells you this trio breathes as one. Grant Green’s Green Street strips things to guitar, bass and drums, recorded at Van Gelder in 1961 with Ben Tucker and Bailey. The slow-bloom take on 'Round About Midnight hangs in the air, every pause weighted just right. He threads chord stabs between ringing single-note lines, no piano needed. Green With Envy stretches out, Tucker’s pulse anchoring Green’s singing lines. If you’d rather order online, you can buy Grant Green records online with us. This LP pressing lets the low end sit deeper and the guitar transients snap. No. 1 Green Street hits hard, then settles into pockets that feel lived-in. Alfred Lion’s production keeps the room clear, so every comp and cymbal brush feels intentional. File it next to Wes Montgomery’s early Riverside work, but Green keeps it leaner, a touch drier, more front-foot. In Melbourne, it’s a go-to for a late drive or a tidy Saturday when you want focus without fuss.
Order online now or swing past our Preston shop to pick it up.
