Description
The soft ping of Al Harewood’s ride under Joe Henderson’s first entrance on Idle Moments tells you everything: unhurried, but alive. Grant Green’s Idle Moments is the late-night Blue Note set where guitar, tenor and vibraphone leave air for each other. Across 14 minutes, the title track drifts in patient choruses; Django turns hymnlike under Green’s dry attack; Nomad tightens the screws with Duke Pearson nudging the band forward. You can hear how Henderson and Bobby Hutcherson shape the mood as much as Green does.
Recorded at Rudy Van Gelder’s in ’63, the intimacy is the point, and this LP pressing improves the sense of space while the low end sits deeper. If you’d prefer to order from home, you can buy Grant Green records online through our site. File it next to Kenny Burrell’s Midnight Blue for era and mood, though Green stays leaner and more linear in his lines.
I reach for this on quiet evenings when conversation needs a pulse but not a shove. There’s real interplay here, not just a guitar feature, and it rewards front-to-back plays rather than cherry-picking.
