Description
Cut in 1985 and 1986 at Ameraycan with producers Randy Hall and Zane Giles, Rubberband catches Miles mid-pivot into drum machines, synth bass, and R&B hooks. Shelved at the time and completed decades later with Vince Wilburn Jr., it makes more sense now than it did then. On Rubberband of Life, Ledisi threads a soulful line while Miles enters with a dry, pinched mute and lets the phrases breathe. So Emotional pairs Lalah Hathaway’s tone with a slinky, late-night pulse that he teases from the edges. Spread over 2LP, the presentation gives the arrangements room to bloom, and the low end sits deeper. You’ll want this beside Tutu and Amandla, with a nod to Herbie Hancock’s Future Shock experiments. If you’d rather order online, you can buy Miles Davis records online with us. The restoration keeps the period gloss without sanding off the quirks. Packaging is thoughtful, and the credits trace the Warner-era detour clearly. It works as a small-room party set or a quiet tidy-up soundtrack. Not a lost Kind of Blue, but a candid snapshot of where his ear was heading. Anyone who lived with the Rubberband EP will enjoy hearing the full arc finally sequenced.
