Description
Two bars into Corcovado (Quiet Nights of Quiet Stars), Getz’s breathy entrance floats over João’s dry guitar and you can almost feel the room. Stan Getz / João Gilberto Featuring Antonio Carlos Jobim - Getz/Gilberto remains the touchstone bossa-jazz set. Recorded in 1963 in New York with Creed Taylor producing and Phil Ramone at the desk, it still sounds effortless. This blue vinyl edition opens the classic up, adding a touch more space and a firmer low end. Astrud’s plainspoken The Girl from Ipanema still steals the show, while Desafinado keeps the sway light and sure. Cymbals decay cleanly, and the bass line in Desafinado walks with a little more heft than old copies we’ve spun. If you’d rather order online, you can buy Stan Getz records online with us. For the shelf, file it beside Chet Baker Sings or your early-60s bossa wave. The mood is late-night, close-mic’d, never showy. Essential for anyone who wants the blueprint bossa-jazz crossover handled with restraint rather than gloss.
