Description
Amy Shark's sophomore album, "Cry Forever," released on April 30, 2021, is a deeply personal and emotionally resonant collection of songs that showcase her growth as an artist. Following the success of her debut album, "Love Monster," which catapulted her into the spotlight, "Cry Forever" continues to explore themes of love, heartbreak, and self-discovery with a raw and honest approach.
One of the standout aspects of "Cry Forever" is its impressive lineup of collaborations. The album features the likes of Ed Sheeran, who co-wrote "Love Songs Ain't for Us," a tender ballad that highlights Shark's ability to convey vulnerability and sincerity. The track also features the legendary Keith Urban, whose gentle guitar work complements Shark's emotive vocals beautifully. This collaboration is a testament to Shark's growing influence in the music industry and her ability to attract top-tier talent.
Another notable track is "C'MON," featuring Blink-182's Travis Barker. The song infuses a pop-punk energy into the album, with Barker's signature drumming style adding a dynamic edge to Shark's introspective lyrics. This track, along with others on the album, demonstrates Shark's versatility and willingness to experiment with different sounds and genres.
Critically, "Cry Forever" has been well-received, with many reviewers praising Shark's songwriting and emotional depth. Publications like NME and Rolling Stone have highlighted her ability to craft relatable and poignant narratives, often drawing from her own life experiences. The album's production, handled by a team including Dann Hume and Joel Little, is polished yet retains an intimate feel, allowing Shark's voice and lyrics to take center stage.
One of the most compelling aspects of "Cry Forever" is its exploration of personal struggles and mental health. Tracks like "Everybody Rise" and "All the Lies About Me" delve into the pressures of fame and the impact it can have on one's sense of self. Shark's candidness in addressing these issues resonates with listeners, offering a sense of solidarity and understanding.
In terms of cultural significance, "Cry Forever" solidifies Amy Shark's position as one of Australia's leading contemporary artists. Her ability to connect with audiences through her music has earned her numerous accolades, including multiple ARIA Awards. While "Cry Forever" itself was released after the 2020 ARIA Awards, it has continued to build on the momentum of her previous successes.
Overall, "Cry Forever" is a compelling and heartfelt album that showcases Amy Shark's evolution as an artist. Her ability to blend personal storytelling with catchy melodies and diverse musical influences makes this album a standout in her discography. Whether you're a long-time fan or new to her music, "Cry Forever" offers a rich listening experience that is both emotionally engaging and musically satisfying.
