Description
The fuzzed guitar jab that launches (I’m Not Your) Steppin’ Stone still feels like a shoulder bump in a crowded room. The Monkees’ More of the Monkees (2LP) captures their 1967 sweet spot, where TV-born charm met studio-ringmaster precision. You get the big ones in proper sequence, from the golden swing of I’m a Believer to the gentler Micky Dolenz showcase Sometime in the Morning. It’s a pop machine, yes, but there’s muscle in the playing and real craft in the harmonies.
This 2LP cut gives the album room to breathe; the space between guitars and vocals is easier to hear, and the low end sits deeper. Surface noise is minimal on a good setup, and the hooks feel freshly scrubbed without losing period character. File it next to The Turtles in your 60s pop corner, though the Monkees lean a touch brighter and more bubblegum.
If you’d rather order from home, you can buy The Monkees records online with us. Great for a Saturday tidy, or to nudge a small gathering into a singalong without scaring off the non-collectors. It belongs on any shelf that values classic singles and efficient, unfussy arrangements, from Preston flats to Melbourne share houses.
Available to buy online with quick delivery Australia wide, or pick it up in our Melbourne record store.
