Description

Alexisonfire - Otherness 2xLP Vinyl Record (Indie Exclusive Neon Purple & Magenta Coloured Vinyl)

Otherness is the fifth studio album by Canadian post-hardcore band Alexisonfire. This hard hitter of an album was released in 2022, thirteen years after the release of their last full-length album Old Crows/Young Cardinals. It is also the band's first album since reuniting in 2015.

This album fuses post-punk elements and a burning behemoth of raging psychedelia throughout its 50-minute run time. The guys never sacrificed the punk soul summoned in beat-up vans and basement shows. Blending their classic sound with new and forward-thinking textures, they produced Otherness themselves.

It's hard to overstate the influence Alexisonfire had in post-hardcore through the mid-2000s, their combination of singing and screaming setting the blueprint for many artists to come, celebrate their return by adding this awesome record to your collection today!

Alexisonfire's album "Otherness" was released on June 24, 2022, marking a significant return for the Canadian post-hardcore band after a long hiatus. This album is their first full-length release since "Old Crows / Young Cardinals" in 2009, and it has been eagerly anticipated by fans who have followed the band through their various projects and solo endeavors over the years.

"Otherness" is a testament to Alexisonfire's ability to evolve while staying true to their roots. The album showcases their signature blend of aggressive post-hardcore with melodic elements, a sound that has garnered them a dedicated following since their formation in 2001. The band members, including vocalists George Pettit and Dallas Green, guitarist Wade MacNeil, bassist Chris Steele, and drummer Jordan Hastings, have all brought their unique influences and experiences to the table, resulting in a cohesive yet diverse collection of songs.

One of the standout tracks on the album is "Sweet Dreams of Otherness," which opens with a haunting melody before launching into a powerful chorus that highlights the dynamic vocal interplay between Pettit and Green. The song sets the tone for the rest of the album, which explores themes of identity, belonging, and the human experience. Another notable track is "Sans Soleil," which features introspective lyrics and a more subdued, atmospheric sound that contrasts with the heavier moments on the album.

Critically, "Otherness" has been well-received, with many reviewers praising the band's ability to balance intensity with melody. Publications like Kerrang! and NME have highlighted the album's emotional depth and the maturity of the band's songwriting. The production, handled by the band themselves along with longtime collaborator Julius "Juice" Butty, is polished yet retains the raw energy that fans have come to expect from Alexisonfire.

In terms of cultural significance, "Otherness" represents a triumphant return for a band that has been influential in the post-hardcore scene. Alexisonfire's impact on the genre is undeniable, and their reunion and subsequent release of new material have been celebrated by fans and critics alike. The album's themes of otherness and identity resonate in today's world, where questions of belonging and self-discovery are more relevant than ever.

The band has shared that the process of creating "Otherness" was a collaborative effort, with each member contributing to the songwriting and production. This democratic approach is evident in the album's diverse sound, which ranges from the anthemic "Conditional Love" to the introspective "Blue Spade." The chemistry between the band members is palpable, and it's clear that their time apart has only strengthened their creative bond.

Overall, "Otherness" is a powerful and poignant addition to Alexisonfire's discography. It captures the essence of what has made the band so beloved while also pushing their sound in new and exciting directions. For longtime fans, the album is a welcome return to form, and for newcomers, it serves as an excellent introduction to the band's unique blend of intensity and melody. Whether you're moshing in the pit or reflecting on the lyrics, "Otherness" offers something for everyone, making it a must-listen for anyone interested in the evolution of post-hardcore music.
