Description
Dhani Harrison’s debut solo album, *In///Parallel*, is a captivating exploration of sound and emotion that showcases his unique artistry while paying homage to his musical lineage. Released on November 17, 2017, this album marks a significant step for Harrison, who has long been known as the son of the legendary George Harrison of The Beatles. However, *In///Parallel* is not merely a product of his heritage; it stands on its own as a testament to Dhani’s creative vision and musical prowess.
From the opening track, "All About Waiting," listeners are drawn into a soundscape that is both ethereal and grounded. The song features lush instrumentation, with layers of guitars and synths that create a dreamy atmosphere. Dhani’s vocals are hauntingly beautiful, conveying a sense of longing and introspection. This track sets the tone for the album, which is rich in texture and emotion, blending elements of rock, pop, and electronic music.
One of the standout tracks is "Adrift," which showcases Dhani’s ability to craft poignant lyrics that resonate deeply. The song reflects themes of uncertainty and searching for direction, a sentiment that many can relate to. The production, handled by Dhani himself alongside engineer and co-producer Paul Hicks, is polished yet retains an organic feel, allowing the emotional weight of the lyrics to shine through. The interplay between the acoustic and electronic elements in this track is particularly noteworthy, creating a dynamic listening experience.
Harrison’s musical influences are evident throughout the album, but he manages to carve out his own identity. The track "Motorways (Erase It)" is a perfect example of this, blending a driving beat with introspective lyrics. The chorus is infectious, and it’s easy to see why this song has become a fan favorite. The production features a mix of live instrumentation and electronic beats, showcasing Dhani’s versatility as a musician. It’s a track that invites listeners to dance while simultaneously reflecting on deeper themes.
The album also features a collaboration with the renowned musician and producer, Jeff Lynne, who is known for his work with Electric Light Orchestra and his collaborations with George Harrison. Lynne’s influence can be felt in the polished production and melodic sensibilities that permeate the album. This connection to his father’s contemporaries adds a layer of historical significance to the work, bridging generations of music.

Publications like *Rolling Stone* and *NME* have highlighted the album as a strong debut, noting that it reflects both personal and universal themes. The critical reception underscores Dhani’s ability to step out of his father’s shadow and establish himself as a formidable artist in his own right.
