Description

Incubus - If Not Now, When? 2xLP Vinyl Record (Translucent Red Coloured Vinyl)

"If Not Now, When?" is the seventh studio album by Incubus, released in 2011. Departing from their earlier sound, the album explores a more mellow and atmospheric direction, featuring melodic compositions and introspective lyrics. Tracks like "Adolescents" showcase the band's growth with a subdued yet captivating energy, marking a departure from their previous works.

"If Not Now, When?" by Incubus, released on July 12, 2011, marks a significant departure from the band's earlier, more aggressive sound. Known for their fusion of rock, funk, and metal, Incubus took a more introspective and mellow approach with this album, which was both a surprise and a delight to many fans.

The album was produced by Brendan O'Brien, who has worked with a plethora of rock legends, including Pearl Jam and Bruce Springsteen. His influence is evident in the polished and expansive sound of the record. "If Not Now, When?" is characterized by its lush arrangements and a more mature, contemplative tone, which showcases the band's evolution over the years.

One of the standout tracks is the lead single, "Adolescents," which captures the essence of the album with its reflective lyrics and soaring melodies. The song received positive reviews for its catchy chorus and the way it balances introspection with a sense of urgency. Another notable track is "Promises, Promises," which highlights Brandon Boyd's emotive vocal delivery and the band's ability to craft a memorable pop-rock tune.

Critically, the album received mixed reviews. Some praised the band for their willingness to experiment and evolve, while others longed for the heavier, more dynamic sound of their earlier work. Rolling Stone noted the album's "mature and restrained" approach, appreciating the band's growth but also acknowledging that it might not satisfy all fans. Meanwhile, AllMusic highlighted the album's "lush, atmospheric" production, which they felt was a strong point, even if the songwriting didn't always match the band's previous highs.

Despite the mixed critical reception, "If Not Now, When?" holds a special place in Incubus's discography for its boldness in exploring new musical territories. The album's title itself suggests a sense of urgency and introspection, themes that resonate throughout the tracks. This introspective nature is perhaps a reflection of the band members' personal growth and experiences over the years.

In terms of cultural significance, "If Not Now, When?" represents a period of transition for Incubus. It was their first album after a five-year hiatus, during which the band members pursued various personal projects. This break allowed them to return with a fresh perspective, which is evident in the album's thoughtful and mature sound.

The album did not receive any major award nominations, but it did chart well, reaching number two on the Billboard 200. This commercial success indicates that, despite the mixed reviews, the album resonated with a significant portion of their fanbase.

Overall, "If Not Now, When?" is an album that showcases Incubus's willingness to take risks and explore new musical landscapes. While it may not have the same immediate impact as some of their earlier work, it offers a rewarding listening experience for those willing to embrace its subtler charms. Whether you're a long-time fan or new to the band, this album is worth a listen for its introspective lyrics, polished production, and the band's undeniable talent.
