Description
Late-night drive music with the windows cracked just enough for the guitars to breathe. Mark Bryan’s Songs of the Fortnight finds the Hootie & the Blowfish co-founder leaning into tuneful, grown-in chops: chiming power-pop hooks, a bit of roots-rock grit, and clean, unfussy songwriting. He keeps things song-first, so the choruses sneak up on you rather than shout for attention, and the solos feel conversational rather than showy.
This LP pressing helps the arrangements open up. The low end sits deeper and there is a clearer sense of space between guitars, organ, and harmonies, which suits the record’s relaxed, road-ready feel. Fans filing Tom Petty’s later-era records will get the draw, though Bryan’s touch is a shade brighter and more collegiate.
Sequencing flows like a well-paced set, moving from chiming mid-tempos to tighter, radio-ready rockers and back to reflective corners without sag. Lyrics keep to everyday detail and wry turns, the kind that grow on repeat plays.
If you’d rather order online, you can buy Mark Bryan records online with us. For Melbourne listeners, it fits that comfortable Sunday arvo mood without sinking into background.
