Description

The tiny inhale before the chorus on Cringe lands like a cue, and you catch the room around Matt Maeson’s voice. Bank On The Funeral (Stripped) turns the 2019 debut inside out, with arrangements that lean on acoustic guitar, piano and little else. Beggar’s Song becomes a cracked hymn rather than an anthem, while I Just Don’t Care That Much sits closer to a late-night confessional, every finger squeak and harmony tucked neatly into place.

This clear 2LP pressing gives the performances more space and tidier imaging, so Maeson’s grain and the mic’s subtle room tone feel immediate. It suits a quiet Melbourne evening, where small details reward repeat plays without fatigue. File it near Hozier, but the difference is a drier, less churchly intimacy that keeps the spotlight firmly on the lyric.

If you’d rather order online, you can buy Matt Maeson records online with us. Packaging keeps the aesthetic minimal, and the expanded sides avoid inner-groove congestion, letting softer transients breathe. Cringe still bites, just with the edges sanded by wood and breath, and Beggar’s Song finds unexpected lift when the backing vocals bloom softly in the last refrain.

A thoughtful document for anyone who prefers the song without the scaffolding. Available to buy online with quick delivery Australia wide, or pick it up in our Melbourne record store.
