Description
Midnight Oil - Resist 2xLP Vinyl Record (Red Coloured Vinyl)
"Resist" is Midnight Oil's 15th studio release, arriving 44 years after they first exploded out of the post-punk scene back in 1978, blazing a singular trail of blistering gigs from Australia's pubs and clubs to arenas and festivals around the world. It is a fitting, forward looking, statement for a band whose clarion call has always been "it's better to die on your feet than live on your knees".
As the title makes abundantly clear, Resist engages with the issues of today and tomorrow "“ like the lead single "Rising Seas" which tackles the climate crisis in typically uncompromising fashion. Featuring the bass playing of the sadly deceased Bones Hillman and production by Warne Livesey (Diesel & Dust, Blue Sky Mining, Capricornia) Resist will be accompanied by a memorable national tour.
Pressed on Red Vinyl
Midnight Oil's album "Resist" was released on February 18, 2022, marking a significant moment for the band as it was announced to be their final studio album. This Australian rock band, known for their politically charged music and environmental activism, has been a staple in the music industry since the late 1970s. "Resist" continues this legacy, delivering a powerful message wrapped in the band's signature sound.
The album was released through Sony Music Australia and features a collection of songs that tackle pressing issues such as climate change, social justice, and political accountability. Midnight Oil has always been a band with a cause, and "Resist" is no exception. The album's themes resonate with the band's long-standing commitment to activism, making it both a musical and a cultural statement.
Critically, "Resist" was well-received, with many reviewers praising the band for maintaining their energy and passion. The Guardian noted the album's "urgent and timely" message, highlighting how Midnight Oil continues to address global issues with the same fervor that characterized their earlier work. Rolling Stone Australia also commended the album, describing it as a "fitting farewell" that encapsulates the band's enduring spirit and dedication to their causes.
One of the standout tracks on the album is "Rising Seas," which directly addresses the climate crisis. The song's powerful lyrics and driving rhythm make it a compelling call to action, urging listeners to confront the realities of environmental degradation. Another notable track is "At the Time of Writing," which critiques political inaction and the failure to address critical issues facing society today.
The production of "Resist" was handled by Warne Livesey, who has worked with the band on several previous albums, including their iconic "Diesel and Dust." Livesey's production brings a polished yet raw sound to the album, capturing the intensity and urgency of the band's message. The album was recorded in various studios across Australia, with the band members bringing their unique talents and perspectives to the project.
In interviews, the band members have expressed a sense of closure with "Resist," viewing it as a culmination of their decades-long career. Frontman Peter Garrett, known for his charismatic stage presence and political activism, has spoken about the importance of the album's themes and the band's desire to leave a lasting impact through their music.
"Resist" also holds a special place in the band's history as it marks the final studio contribution of bassist Bones Hillman, who passed away in 2020. Hillman's influence is felt throughout the album, and his legacy is honored in the music and the band's continued commitment to their message.
Overall, "Resist" is a testament to Midnight Oil's enduring relevance and their unwavering dedication to using music as a platform for change. The album not only serves as a powerful farewell but also as a reminder of the band's significant contributions to both music and activism. For fans of Midnight Oil and newcomers alike, "Resist" offers a compelling listen that challenges and inspires, staying true to the band's roots while addressing the urgent issues of today.
