Description

The Kills, the indie rock duo consisting of Alison Mosshart and Jamie Hince, have returned with their latest release, "Little Bastards." This album, which serves as a compilation of B-sides, rarities, and unreleased tracks from their previous albums, offers a unique glimpse into the band's creative process and showcases their raw and unfiltered sound.

Clocking in at just over an hour, "Little Bastards" features 20 tracks that span the band's career, from their early days to their more recent releases. The album opens with the gritty and energetic "Superpowerless," setting the tone for what's to come. Mosshart's powerful vocals and Hince's distorted guitar riffs immediately grab the listener's attention, creating an atmosphere of intensity and urgency.

Throughout the album, The Kills effortlessly blend elements of garage rock, blues, and punk, creating a sound that is both familiar and refreshing. Tracks like "Raise Me" and "Night Train" showcase the band's ability to craft infectious hooks and memorable melodies, while songs like "Jewel Thief" and "I Call It Art" highlight their knack for creating dark and brooding atmospheres.

One of the standout tracks on "Little Bastards" is the hauntingly beautiful "The Search for Cherry Red." Mosshart's vocals take center stage, delivering a mesmerizing performance that is both vulnerable and captivating. The stripped-down instrumentation allows her voice to shine, creating a truly captivating listening experience.

Another highlight of the album is the inclusion of live recordings, which add a raw and energetic element to the overall sound. Tracks like "Love Is a Deserter" and "Wait" capture the band's electrifying live performances, showcasing their chemistry and stage presence.

While "Little Bastards" primarily consists of previously unreleased material, it is important to note that this album is not just a collection of throwaway tracks. Each song has its own unique charm and contributes to the overall narrative of The Kills' discography. The album serves as a testament to the band's creativity and versatility, showcasing their ability to experiment with different sounds and styles while maintaining their signature sound.

One of the strengths of "Little Bastards" is its cohesiveness. Despite being a compilation of various tracks from different eras, the album flows seamlessly from start to finish. The Kills have carefully curated the tracklist, ensuring that each song complements the next, creating a cohesive listening experience that keeps the listener engaged from beginning to end.

In conclusion, The Kills' "Little Bastards" is a must-listen for both longtime fans and newcomers alike. This compilation album offers a unique insight into the band's creative process and showcases their evolution as artists. With its raw and unfiltered sound, infectious hooks, and captivating performances, "Little Bastards" is a testament to The Kills' talent and serves as a reminder of why they have remained a force to be reckoned with in the indie rock scene.
