Description

The Last Shadow Puppets, a supergroup consisting of Alex Turner from Arctic Monkeys and Miles Kane, burst onto the scene in 2008 with their debut album "The Age of the Understatement." Eight years later, they returned with their highly anticipated sophomore effort, "Everything You've Come To Expect." This album showcases the duo's growth and maturity, while still maintaining the charm and energy that made them so beloved in the first place.

"Everything You've Come To Expect" is a mesmerizing blend of indie rock, baroque pop, and orchestral arrangements. The album opens with the hauntingly beautiful title track, setting the tone for what's to come. The lush instrumentation, courtesy of the London Metropolitan Orchestra, adds a grandiose and cinematic quality to the songs, elevating them to new heights.

One of the standout tracks on the album is "Aviation," a catchy and infectious song that showcases Turner and Kane's vocal harmonies at their best. The lyrics are clever and poetic, painting vivid pictures in the listener's mind. The track is driven by a pulsating bassline and a groovy drumbeat, creating an irresistible rhythm that will have you tapping your foot along.

Another highlight is "Miracle Aligner," a dreamy and romantic ballad that showcases Turner's lyrical prowess. His ability to craft evocative and introspective lyrics is on full display here, as he sings about the complexities of love and relationships. The song is accompanied by a beautiful string arrangement, adding an extra layer of emotion to the already heartfelt lyrics.

The Last Shadow Puppets also experiment with different sounds and genres on this album. "Bad Habits" is a rock-infused track with a catchy guitar riff and a driving rhythm section. It's a high-energy song that will have you nodding your head along from start to finish. On the other hand, "Sweet Dreams, TN" takes a more stripped-down approach, with Turner's soulful vocals taking center stage. The simplicity of the song allows the lyrics to shine, creating a poignant and intimate moment on the album.

While "Everything You've Come To Expect" is undeniably a strong album, it does have a few moments that feel slightly underwhelming. Some tracks, such as "Dracula Teeth" and "Pattern," lack the same level of excitement and innovation found in the rest of the album. However, these moments are few and far between, and overall, the album is a cohesive and enjoyable listening experience.

The production on this album is top-notch, with James Ford (Arctic Monkeys, Florence + The Machine) at the helm. The attention to detail is evident in every song, with each instrument and vocal line perfectly balanced. The album has a warm and vintage sound, reminiscent of classic rock records from the '60s and '70s, while still feeling fresh and modern.

In conclusion, "Everything You've Come To Expect" is a triumphant return for The Last Shadow Puppets. It showcases the duo's growth as musicians and songwriters, while still retaining the charm and energy that made them so beloved in the first place. With its lush orchestral arrangements, catchy hooks, and introspective lyrics, this album is a must-listen for fans of indie rock and baroque pop. The Last Shadow Puppets have once again proven themselves as a force to be reckoned with in the music industry, and "Everything You've Come To Expect" is a testament to their talent and creativity.
