Description
Released in 1993, "Come On Feel The Lemonheads" is the sixth studio album by the American alternative rock band, The Lemonheads. Known for their melodic and catchy tunes, this album showcases the band's signature sound while exploring a range of musical styles and themes.
From the opening track, "The Great Big No," it becomes evident that The Lemonheads have crafted an album that is both energetic and introspective. The song's jangly guitars and infectious hooks set the tone for what's to come. Lead vocalist and songwriter Evan Dando's distinctive voice shines throughout the album, effortlessly conveying a mix of vulnerability and confidence.
One of the standout tracks on the album is "It's About Time." With its driving rhythm and infectious chorus, it's a perfect example of The Lemonheads' ability to create instantly memorable pop-rock songs. The lyrics, though seemingly simple, carry a sense of longing and introspection, adding depth to the overall experience.
Another highlight is the cover of Simon and Garfunkel's "Mrs. Robinson." The Lemonheads' version brings a fresh and alternative twist to the classic, infusing it with their own unique sound. Dando's vocals, combined with the band's tight instrumentation, breathe new life into the song, making it a standout moment on the album.
"Come On Feel The Lemonheads" also showcases the band's versatility in terms of musical styles. Tracks like "Big Gay Heart" and "Style" delve into a more punk-influenced sound, with fast-paced guitars and energetic performances. On the other hand, songs like "Favorite T" and "Being Around" lean towards a more introspective and acoustic-driven approach, highlighting Dando's songwriting prowess.
Lyrically, the album explores a range of themes, from love and relationships to self-reflection and personal struggles. Dando's lyrics often possess a poetic quality, with a mix of introspection and wit. The album's title track, "Come On Feel The Lemonheads," is a prime example of this, with its clever wordplay and infectious chorus.
While the album is filled with strong tracks, there are moments where the songwriting feels slightly inconsistent. Some songs may not leave as lasting an impression as others, but they still contribute to the overall flow and feel of the album. The production, handled by The Robb Brothers, is clean and polished, allowing the band's melodies and hooks to shine through.
"Come On Feel The Lemonheads" is an album that captures the essence of The Lemonheads' sound and showcases their ability to create catchy, melodic rock songs. It's a testament to their songwriting skills and their ability to infuse their music with a sense of authenticity and emotion.
Overall, "Come On Feel The Lemonheads" is a solid addition to The Lemonheads' discography. It may not reach the same level of commercial success as their previous album, "It's a Shame About Ray," but it stands as a testament to the band's musical evolution and their ability to create memorable and enjoyable alternative rock music.
Fans of The Lemonheads will find much to appreciate in this album, while newcomers will be introduced to a band that has left an indelible mark on the alternative rock scene. "Come On Feel The Lemonheads" is a testament to the band's talent and their ability to create music that resonates with listeners.
