Description
A wiry guitar line snakes through Vaccination Scar, the kind of detail that still catches my ear behind the counter. In Between Evolution finds The Tragically Hip sharpening their 2000s attack under producer Adam Kasper, with Gord Downie shifting from bark to balm in a heartbeat. Heaven Is a Better Place Today races with nervous energy, while Gus: The Polar Bear from Central Park leans into oddball storytelling that lands. Tension and release runs through the set, alternating tight, choppy rockers with those sideways narratives the band nail. On our Melbourne shelves, it sits comfortably beside Pearl Jam’s early 2000s output, more sinewy than stadium-sized.
This LP opens more space around the twin guitars and the low end sits deeper. 2004-era Hip goes leaner and faster, trimming fat without losing their crooked grin. Kasper’s touch favours feel over fuss, so the band sounds like five players in a room. If you’d rather order online, you can buy The Tragically Hip records online with us. You can feel the live-first intent in the way verses tumble into choruses without fuss. It plays like a tight set from a band that trusts instinct over polish. As a mid-era sleeper in their catalogue, it rewards volume and a bit of room to breathe.
