Description
A Hammond swell that tees up the last chorus of One Headlight still gives a little shiver. The Wallflowers’ Bringing Down The Horse (2LP) captures that 1996 shade of heartland pop where hooks and highway dust meet, guided by T Bone Burnett’s steady hand. Spread over two discs, the album breathes better; low end sits deeper around Jakob Dylan’s voice and Rami Jaffee’s keys. 6th Avenue Heartache glides with weary grace, while The Difference snaps with a lean, driving snare that finally has room to punch. Sequencing stays strong all the way through, Burnett keeping the guitars chiming and the organs warm without showboating. If you’d rather order online, you can buy The Wallflowers records online with us. In Melbourne, it’s the sort of thing you throw on for a late drive or a Sunday tidy and it just feels right. File it beside Tom Petty’s clean-lined late-80s and 90s output, though the Wallflowers keep the edges a touch more modern and glassy. Pressing is quiet and confident, letting the small details like tambourine shakes and guitar bends sit where they should without fuss.
