Description
Bowie’s spoken-word prologue on Glass Spider still pricks the ears, a theatrical cue before the drum machines and Frampton’s guitar bite in. David Bowie’s Never Let Me Down is his glossy 1987 pivot back toward rock shapes after the pop of Let’s Dance, messy in places but stocked with hooks. Time Will Crawl carries the record, all propulsive toms and a chorus that lifts higher than the mix suggests. The title track leans tender, with Peter Frampton’s filigrees winding around Bowie’s vocal, while Day-In Day-Out bangs with big gated snares. Filed in the racks, it sits neatly between mid-80s Bowie and the Tin Machine reset, a snapshot of a restless writer testing stadium tools. This LP cut gives everything a touch more space and the low end sits deeper, which flatters the dense arrangements. If you’d rather order online, you can buy David Bowie records online with us. Works for a late drive through Melbourne or a tidy-up soundtrack when you want 80s drama without pure nostalgia. Some will argue for the 2018 rework, but the original sequencing here tells the story Bowie was actually living. Spin for Glass Spider, stay for Time Will Crawl and the title cut, and you might find this era has more heart than its reputation.
