Description
The little swell of Paul Buckmaster’s strings chasing the piano in Tiny Dancer still gives a shiver. Madman Across The Water is Elton John’s orchestral peak with Gus Dudgeon at the desk, where storytelling meets weighty arrangements. Levon lifts on Nigel Olsson’s tidy drum push and Dee Murray’s singing bass, while the title track broods in swirling strings and slow-burn piano. This Blue Splatter Vinyl LP looks the part and, more importantly, opens up the space around the band; the low end sits deeper without smearing the vocals. You can park it next to Billy Joel’s early 70s run, but the Buckmaster orchestrations make this one moodier and grander. If you’d rather order online, you can buy Elton John records online with us. Davey Johnstone’s early guitar and mandolin colour on Holiday Inn hints at the road-hardened unit to come. We spin this a lot in Melbourne and it always makes the shop feel a notch bigger. A classic that still invites a front-to-back play, not just the radio staples. Perfect for anyone building a record collection, buy online or in store today.
