Description
Elton John's "Step Into Christmas" is a delightful holiday single that has become a staple of the festive season since its release in 1973. Released as a standalone single, it was paired with the B-side "Ho, Ho, Ho (Who’d Be a Turkey at Christmas)", showcasing Elton's playful and celebratory approach to holiday music. While not part of a full album, this single has earned its place in the pantheon of Christmas classics.
"Step Into Christmas" is a joyous and upbeat track, co-written by Elton John and his longtime collaborator Bernie Taupin. The song captures the spirit of the holidays with its cheerful melody and festive lyrics, inviting listeners to embrace the season with open arms. Elton's energetic piano playing and vibrant vocals are complemented by the production, which was designed to emulate the sound of Phil Spector's famous "Wall of Sound" technique. This gives the track a rich and full-bodied feel, making it a perfect addition to any holiday playlist.
The B-side, "Ho, Ho, Ho (Who’d Be a Turkey at Christmas)", is a humorous and whimsical tune that showcases Elton's playful side. While it may not have achieved the same level of recognition as "Step Into Christmas", it adds a fun and quirky dimension to the single, highlighting Elton's versatility as an artist.
"Step Into Christmas" has enjoyed enduring popularity over the years, regularly appearing on holiday music compilations and receiving significant airplay during the Christmas season. Its timeless appeal lies in its ability to evoke the joy and warmth of the holidays, making it a beloved classic for generations of listeners.
Overall, this single is a testament to Elton John's ability to craft music that resonates with audiences and stands the test of time. Whether you're a longtime fan or discovering it for the first time, "Step Into Christmas" is sure to bring a smile to your face and a festive spirit to your heart.
