Description
"Walk the Earth," released in 2017, is the eleventh studio album by the Swedish rock band Europe. Known for their iconic 1986 hit "The Final Countdown," Europe has continued to evolve their sound over the decades, and "Walk the Earth" is a testament to their enduring presence in the rock music scene. The album was produced by Dave Cobb, a Grammy-winning producer known for his work with artists like Chris Stapleton and Jason Isbell, and was recorded at the legendary Abbey Road Studios in London.
The album opens with the title track "Walk the Earth," which sets the tone with its powerful riffs and anthemic chorus. The song showcases the band's ability to blend classic rock influences with a modern edge, a theme that runs throughout the album. Joey Tempest's vocals remain as strong and dynamic as ever, while John Norum's guitar work is both intricate and commanding, providing a solid backbone to the band's sound.
One of the standout tracks on the album is "The Siege," which features a driving rhythm and a sense of urgency that captures the listener's attention. The song's lyrics, like much of the album, explore themes of resilience and perseverance, resonating with the band's journey and growth over the years. Another notable track is "Kingdom United," which combines melodic hooks with a hard-hitting rock foundation, showcasing the band's ability to craft memorable and impactful songs.
"Walk the Earth" received generally positive reviews from critics, who praised the band's musicianship and the album's production quality. Many noted that Europe had successfully managed to stay relevant in the rock genre while maintaining their signature sound. The album was also recognized for its cohesive structure and the way it seamlessly blends various rock influences, from classic to progressive rock elements.
In terms of cultural significance, "Walk the Earth" demonstrates Europe's commitment to their craft and their ability to adapt to the changing musical landscape. The album reflects the band's maturity and their willingness to experiment with new sounds while staying true to their roots. This balance of innovation and tradition is a key factor in Europe's continued success and appeal to both longtime fans and new listeners.
The album did not win any major awards, but it solidified Europe's status as a band that continues to produce quality music decades after their initial rise to fame. "Walk the Earth" serves as a reminder of the band's enduring talent and their ability to create music that resonates with audiences across generations.
Overall, "Walk the Earth" is a strong addition to Europe's discography, showcasing their growth as musicians and their dedication to their art. The album's blend of powerful rock anthems and thoughtful lyrics makes it a compelling listen for fans of the genre. Europe's ability to evolve while maintaining their core sound is a testament to their skill and passion, ensuring their place in the rock music pantheon.
