Description
The sax line that tumbles into Hari’s On Tour (Express) hints at the album’s L.A. session sparkle, then George drops into the ragged honesty of Dark Horse with that famously frayed 1974 voice. It is a messy, human record, and that is the appeal. Māya Love rides a sly, clipped groove, while So Sad is all bruised melody and late-night introspection.
This LP pressing does the album a favour. There is more space around the horns and keys, and the low end sits deeper, which helps the funkier passages breathe. Art reproduction is tidy too, so the package feels properly considered without gilding it.
File it next to Lennon’s Walls and Bridges and the mid 70s L.A. crossover of jazz, soul and rock, a snapshot of a Beatle leaning into new players and textures. Around Melbourne, it suits a quiet evening or a slow Saturday tidy when you want character over gloss. If you’d rather order online, you can buy George Harrison records online with us.
Far East Man deserves a fresh listen here, its slow-burn arrangement giving George room to lean into the lyric. Ding Dong, Ding Dong still rings as a battered holiday toast, and the instrumental opener remains a highlight for Tom Scott’s punchy lines.
Add it to your collection today, available online or in our Melbourne record store.
