Hoodoo Gurus, the iconic Australian rock band, returned to the music scene in 2010 with their ninth studio album, "Purity Of Essence." Known for their energetic and catchy tunes, the band once again delivers a collection of songs that showcase their signature sound and songwriting prowess.

"Purity Of Essence" kicks off with the infectious track "Crackin' Up," setting the tone for the album with its driving rhythm and catchy guitar riffs. The song immediately grabs the listener's attention and serves as a strong opening statement for what's to come. The band's ability to craft memorable hooks is evident throughout the album, making it a joy to listen to from start to finish.

One of the standout tracks on the album is "What's My Scene," a song that has become a staple in the Hoodoo Gurus' live performances. With its infectious chorus and memorable guitar solo, it perfectly encapsulates the band's ability to create anthemic rock songs that resonate with audiences. The track showcases the band's tight musicianship and their ability to create a sound that is both timeless and distinctly their own.

Another highlight of "Purity Of Essence" is the track "I Hope You're Happy," a melodic and introspective song that showcases the band's lyrical depth. The song explores themes of longing and reflection, with lead singer Dave Faulkner's emotive vocals adding an extra layer of vulnerability to the track. It's a standout moment on the album that demonstrates the band's ability to balance their energetic rock sound with introspective and thought-provoking lyrics.

Throughout the album, the Hoodoo Gurus display their versatility as musicians, effortlessly transitioning between different styles and genres. Tracks like "Burnt Orange" and "Only In America" showcase the band's ability to incorporate elements of country and blues into their rock sound, adding a refreshing twist to their music. This willingness to experiment and push boundaries is what sets the Hoodoo Gurus apart from their contemporaries and keeps their music fresh and exciting.

Lyrically, "Purity Of Essence" explores a range of themes, from personal introspection to social commentary. The band's ability to tackle these subjects with wit and intelligence is a testament to their songwriting skills. Tracks like "Are You Sleeping?" and "Crackin' Up" touch on societal issues, while songs like "I Hope You're Happy" and "Burnt Orange" delve into more personal and introspective territory. This diversity in subject matter adds depth to the album and keeps the listener engaged throughout.

In terms of production, "Purity Of Essence" is polished and well-crafted. The band's sound is crisp and clear, allowing each instrument to shine through. The production enhances the overall listening experience, adding an extra layer of richness to the already strong songwriting.

Overall, "Purity Of Essence" is a solid addition to the Hoodoo Gurus' discography.
