Description

"Weather", released on February 14, 2020, is the seventh studio album by Huey Lewis and the News, and it holds a special place in the band's discography. Coming nearly two decades after their previous album of original material, "Plan B" (2001), "Weather" is a concise yet heartfelt collection of seven tracks that showcase the band's signature blend of rock, pop, and soul. The album is particularly poignant as it was created during a challenging time for Huey Lewis, who has been battling Ménière's disease, a condition that affects hearing and balance.

Clocking in at just under 30 minutes, "Weather" is a compact album, but it doesn't feel incomplete. Instead, it feels like a concentrated dose of what Huey Lewis and the News do best: delivering catchy, well-crafted songs with a sense of fun and authenticity. The album opens with "While We're Young", a reflective yet upbeat track that captures the band's ability to balance nostalgia with a forward-looking perspective. The song's lyrics, paired with its infectious melody, set the tone for the rest of the album.

One of the standout tracks is "Her Love Is Killin' Me", a lively and soulful number that showcases the band's tight musicianship and Lewis's charismatic vocals. The song was released as a single in 2019 and received positive feedback for its classic Huey Lewis and the News sound. Another highlight is "I Am There for You", a heartfelt ballad that demonstrates the band's versatility and emotional depth.

The production on "Weather" is polished yet retains a sense of warmth and intimacy. The band worked with longtime collaborator Johnny Colla, and the result is an album that feels both timeless and contemporary. The horn section, a hallmark of the band's sound, is as vibrant as ever, adding a layer of richness to the arrangements.

"Weather" has been well-received by fans and critics alike, with many praising its quality and the band's ability to stay true to their roots while still sounding fresh. The album serves as a reminder of why Huey Lewis and the News have remained beloved for decades. It's a testament to their enduring talent and passion for music.

Given the circumstances surrounding its creation, "Weather" is a bittersweet release. Huey Lewis's health challenges have made it difficult for the band to tour and record, and "Weather" may very well be their final album. However, it stands as a fitting capstone to their career, encapsulating the joy and energy that have defined their music.

In conclusion, "Weather" is a delightful addition to Huey Lewis and the News's discography. It's a short but sweet album that captures the essence of what makes the band special. Whether you're a longtime fan or new to their music, "Weather" is well worth a listen. It's a celebration of life, love, and the power of music to bring people together.
