John Farnham's "Age of Reason" is a classic album that holds a special place in the hearts of many Australians. Released on July 25, 1988, this album marked a significant moment in Farnham's career, following the massive success of his previous album, "Whispering Jack." "Age of Reason" continued to solidify Farnham's status as one of Australia's most beloved vocalists.

The album's title track, "Age of Reason," became an anthem of sorts, resonating with listeners through its powerful lyrics and Farnham's soaring vocals. The song was a commercial success, reaching number one on the Australian charts and becoming one of the defining songs of the late 1980s in Australia. Its themes of reflection and the quest for understanding struck a chord with audiences, and the track remains a staple in Farnham's live performances.

Produced by Ross Fraser, who had also worked on "Whispering Jack," "Age of Reason" features a polished sound that blends pop and rock elements seamlessly. The production quality is top-notch, with each track showcasing Farnham's vocal prowess. The album's sound is both timeless and distinctly of its era, capturing the essence of late 80s pop-rock.

In addition to the title track, the album includes several other standout songs. "Two Strong Hearts," a duet with fellow Australian singer Olivia Newton-John, is another highlight. The chemistry between Farnham and Newton-John is palpable, and the song's upbeat tempo and catchy chorus make it a fan favorite. "Beyond the Call" and "We're No Angels" are also notable tracks that demonstrate Farnham's versatility as a singer.

Critically, "Age of Reason" was well-received. It was praised for its strong songwriting and Farnham's exceptional vocal delivery. The album's success was not just limited to Australia; it also found an audience in several other countries, further cementing Farnham's international appeal.

"Age of Reason" was nominated for several awards and won the ARIA Award for Best Adult Contemporary Album in 1989. This recognition was a testament to the album's quality and Farnham's enduring popularity.

One interesting aspect of the album's production is the involvement of several talented musicians and songwriters. The title track was co-written by Todd Hunter of Dragon and Johanna Pigott, adding a unique touch to the album's sound. The collaboration between these artists and Farnham resulted in a collection of songs that are both memorable and impactful.

Overall, "Age of Reason" is a testament to John Farnham's talent and his ability to connect with audiences through music. The album's themes of introspection and growth are as relevant today as they were in 1988, making it a timeless piece of work. Whether you're a long-time fan or new to Farnham's music, "Age of Reason" is an album that deserves a listen.
