Description
Suzi Quatro’s latest album, "Uncovered," is a delightful homage to the songs that have shaped her career and influenced her as an artist. Released on September 23, 2022, this collection showcases Quatro’s unique ability to reinterpret classic tracks while infusing them with her signature rock and roll spirit. Known for her pioneering role in the glam rock movement of the 1970s, Quatro has always been a force to be reckoned with, and this album is a testament to her enduring legacy.
"Uncovered" features a selection of covers that span various genres and decades, reflecting Quatro’s eclectic taste and deep appreciation for music. From the moment the album kicks off with a spirited rendition of "I Want to Be Your Man," originally by The Rolling Stones, it’s clear that Quatro is not just revisiting these songs; she’s making them her own. Her raspy, powerful vocals breathe new life into each track, and her rock-infused arrangements add a fresh twist that keeps the listener engaged.
One of the standout tracks is her cover of "The Wild One," a song that resonates deeply with Quatro’s own rebellious spirit. Originally performed by Johnny O’Keefe, Quatro’s version is a celebration of freedom and individuality, themes that have been central to her career. The energy in her voice, combined with the driving beat of the instrumentation, makes it impossible not to tap your feet along. It’s a reminder of why Quatro has remained a beloved figure in rock music for over five decades.
Another highlight is her take on "All Shook Up," the Elvis Presley classic. Quatro’s interpretation is both respectful and innovative, showcasing her ability to blend nostalgia with contemporary flair. The production, handled by Quatro herself, features a punchy bass line and vibrant guitar riffs that elevate the original while maintaining its infectious charm. It’s a track that feels both timeless and fresh, a perfect example of how Quatro continues to evolve as an artist.
The album also includes a heartfelt rendition of "I Can’t Stand the Rain," originally by Ann Peebles. Quatro’s soulful delivery adds a layer of emotion that is palpable, making it one of the more poignant moments on the album. Her ability to convey vulnerability through her powerful voice is a testament to her artistry, and this track is a beautiful showcase of that talent.
Critics have responded positively to "Uncovered," with many praising Quatro’s ability to reinterpret these classics while staying true to her rock roots. Publications like Classic Rock and Rolling Stone have highlighted her vocal prowess and the album’s production quality, noting that it feels both polished and raw, a balance that Quatro has mastered over the years. The album has also been recognized for its cultural significance, as it not only pays tribute to the songs that have influenced her but also serves as a reminder of the impact women have had in rock music.
In interviews, Quatro has expressed her love for the songs she chose to cover, stating that each one holds a special place in her heart. This personal connection shines through in her performances, making "Uncovered" feel like a labor of love. It’s clear that Quatro is not just revisiting her past; she’s celebrating it, inviting listeners to join her on this nostalgic journey.
As a fan of Suzi Quatro, it’s thrilling to see her continue to push boundaries and explore new musical territories. "Uncovered" is more than just a collection of covers; it’s a reflection of an artist who has remained relevant and influential in the music industry.
