Description
The tiny floor-tom pickup before the first chorus of Don’t Bring Me Down still makes the room lean forward. Animalization catches The Animals in 1966’s hard-turning moment, post–Alan Price with Dave Rowberry’s tougher keys and sessions where new drummer Barry Jenkins starts to bite. Don’t Bring Me Down snarls with fuzz and organ grit, while See See Rider rides a nasty Chas Chandler bass slide into Burdon’s roar. Spin Gin House Blues for the slow burn where the vocal curdles just enough.
This LP pressing opens the picture up; low end sits deeper and the imaging feels cleaner, so guitar and organ stop fighting for the same corner. You also get the period sleeve look presented crisply, which suits the era’s blunt charm.
File it next to The Yardbirds for that same British R&B voltage, but Animalization leans heavier and more barroom, less psychedelic gloss. If you’d rather order from home, you can buy The Animals records online with us. It’s a mid-60s document that still swings hard at party volume and holds up on a late-night tidy when you want the drums and organ to feel like they’re in the next room.
For anyone chasing the band’s grit without the compilations fog, this is the keeper cut. Order today, available online or for pickup in our Melbourne store.
