Description
A wheeze from Garth Hudson’s Lowrey just before Whispering Pines settles in tells you this is a room, not a trick. The Band’s 1969 self-titled brown album finds them at their most homespun and telepathic. This 2LP 45RPM cut focuses the imaging, snapping the five players into a believable circle. Levon’s lazy shuffle on Up on Cripple Creek feels chewier. When The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down swells, Rick Danko’s bass lands deeper without smothering the harmonies. John Simon’s wood-and-wool production comes through with a touch more air, the sort of detail you notice on a quiet Melbourne evening.

File it beside Dylan’s late-sixties roots records to trace the same stubborn devotion to song, but the voices here share the load in a way only this crew could. For those who already know Music From Big Pink, this is where the myth gets dirt under its nails and turns into a working band. It is a reference copy for anyone who values feel over flash, and a pressing that lets the feel speak. Perfect for anyone building a record collection, buy online or in store today.
