Description

Alice In Chains - Dirt 30th Anniversary 2xLP Vinyl Record (Opaque Yellow Coloured Vinyl)

Released in 1992 via Columbia Records, Dirt is the second studio album by the American rock band Alice in Chains.

The songs on the album focused on depression, pain, anger, anti-social behavior, relationships, drug addiction, war, death, and other emotionally charged topics making this grunge album heavier and more hard-hitting. Accompanying the strong themes is even stronger musicianship from the band. Hypnotic vocals from leader singer Wayne Staley and intricate guitar solos from Jerry Cantrell make themselves known within the album's 57-minute run-time.

Celebrating 30 years since its initial release, the album has received the modern-day remastering treatment allowing more layers of sounds and arrangements to rise to the surface, adding to an already transcendent listening experience.

With hit singles such as Them Bones, Would? And Rooster and pressed on gorgeous Yellow vinyl, no record collection is complete without the addition of this triumphant album.

"Dirt" by Alice In Chains is a seminal album in the grunge and alternative metal genres, released on September 29, 1992. This album is often hailed as one of the band's greatest works and a defining record of the early '90s grunge movement. It captures the raw, gritty essence of the era with its dark themes and heavy sound.

The album was produced by Dave Jerden, who had previously worked with bands like Jane's Addiction. "Dirt" is notable for its heavy guitar riffs, haunting melodies, and the distinctive vocal harmonies of Layne Staley and Jerry Cantrell. The album's themes revolve around addiction, depression, and personal turmoil, reflecting Staley's own struggles with substance abuse.

One of the standout tracks on the album is "Rooster," which was written by Cantrell about his father's experiences in the Vietnam War. The song's haunting melody and powerful lyrics make it a fan favorite and a staple in the band's live performances. Another significant track is "Would?", which was featured in the soundtrack for the film "Singles" and addresses the death of Andrew Wood, the lead singer of Mother Love Bone.

"Dirt" received critical acclaim upon its release. It was praised for its raw honesty and the band's ability to blend heavy metal with grunge. Rolling Stone described the album as "a brilliant song cycle of addiction, despair, and hope." The album was also a commercial success, peaking at number six on the Billboard 200 chart and eventually being certified quadruple platinum by the RIAA.

The album's impact on the music scene was profound. It solidified Alice In Chains' place among the leading bands of the grunge movement, alongside Nirvana, Pearl Jam, and Soundgarden. "Dirt" is often cited as an influence by many artists in the rock and metal genres, and its legacy continues to resonate with fans and musicians alike.

In terms of awards, "Dirt" was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Hard Rock Performance with Vocal for the track "Would?" in 1993. Although it did not win, the nomination further cemented the band's status in the rock music world.

The making of "Dirt" was not without its challenges. The band members have spoken about the difficult recording process, with Staley's addiction issues creating tension and uncertainty. Despite these struggles, the album's raw emotion and authenticity shine through, making it a powerful and enduring work.

Overall, "Dirt" is a landmark album that captures the essence of a turbulent time in music history. Its exploration of dark themes and its heavy, melodic sound have left a lasting impact on the rock genre. Whether you're a longtime fan or new to Alice In Chains, "Dirt" is an album that deserves a place in any music lover's collection.
