Description

"What's Words Worth?" is a live album by the legendary rock band Motörhead, released on June 24, 1998. This album captures the raw energy and ferocity of Motörhead's live performances, showcasing their unique blend of rock, metal, and punk influences. It was recorded during a concert in 1998, and it serves as a testament to the band's enduring legacy in the world of heavy music.

Motörhead, fronted by the iconic Lemmy Kilmister, has always been known for their relentless sound and high-octane performances. This album is no exception, as it features a setlist that includes some of their most beloved tracks. The live recording brings a certain authenticity that studio albums often lack, allowing fans to experience the thrill of a Motörhead concert from the comfort of their own homes.

One of the standout tracks on the album is undoubtedly "Overkill," which has become a staple in Motörhead's live shows. The song's driving rhythm and Lemmy's unmistakable growl create an electrifying atmosphere that is palpable even through the speakers. Another highlight is "Ace of Spades," perhaps the band's most famous song, which never fails to get the crowd riled up. The energy captured in this live performance is a reminder of why Motörhead has been such a significant force in rock music for decades.

Critically, "What's Words Worth?" received a warm reception from fans and reviewers alike. While it may not have garnered the same level of attention as some of their studio albums, it was praised for its authenticity and the raw power of the live recordings. Major publications like AllMusic and Metal Hammer highlighted the album's ability to convey the essence of a Motörhead concert, emphasizing the band's relentless energy and Lemmy's charismatic stage presence.

Interestingly, this album was released during a time when Motörhead was celebrating their 20th anniversary, which adds a layer of historical significance to it. The band had already established themselves as pioneers of heavy metal and had influenced countless artists across various genres. This live album serves as a reminder of their impact and the loyalty of their fanbase, who have followed them through thick and thin.

In terms of production, the album was recorded by the band's long-time collaborator, Cameron Webb, who has worked with Motörhead on several projects. Webb's expertise in capturing the live sound of the band is evident, as the album maintains a raw and unpolished feel that is characteristic of Motörhead's live shows. The mix allows each instrument to shine, from Phil Campbell's blistering guitar solos to Mikkey Dee's thunderous drumming, all while keeping Lemmy's distinctive voice front and center.

One fun fact about the album is that it features a cover of "The Chase Is Better Than the Catch," which is another fan favorite. This track, like many others on the album, showcases the band's ability to blend humor with hard-hitting rock, a hallmark of Motörhead's songwriting.

Overall, "What's Words Worth?" is a fantastic addition to any Motörhead fan's collection. It encapsulates the spirit of the band and serves as a reminder of their incredible live performances. While it may not have the same level of recognition as some of their classic studio albums, it stands as a testament to the band's legacy and their unwavering commitment to rock and roll. Whether you're a long-time fan or new to Motörhead's music, this live album is sure to leave you feeling energized and ready to rock.
