Description
A machine-gun snare flurry before the chorus of Happiness in Slavery still makes you flinch. Broken captures Nine Inch Nails at peak feral, a 1992 pressure-cooker between Pretty Hate Machine’s polish and The Downward Spiral’s sprawl, all grind, no filler. Reznor produced and played most parts, so the grind feels obsessively hand-built and intentional. Cut at 45RPM across an LP with the bonus 7-inch, this pressing lets the low end sit deeper and the transients snap harder. If you’d rather order online, you can buy Nine Inch Nails records online with us. Wish still absolutely detonates, guitars sawing against metallic drums, while Gave Up turns spite into momentum. Sealed 7-inch completes the original experience without the old scavenger hunt, a neat nod to the era’s mischief. File it beside Ministry’s Psalm 69 period, though Reznor’s sense of space and hooks is sharper. Short, ugly, and strangely catchy, it remains the hinge between synth-noir and stadium-sized abrasion. Cranked in a Melbourne share house, it’s pure catharsis that also rewards close listens to the little machine-room details. It still feels uncomfortably alive.
