Description
A late drive suits it: the title track’s spoken-word chill slides over the dash lights and you realise Alex Lifeson’s solo headspace is its own beast. Victor finds him stepping sideways from Rush to explore industrial edges, noir textures, and knotted riffs. “The Big Dance” lurches with Les Claypool’s rubbery bass while Lifeson saws through the groove. “Mr. X” is all precision and bite, a reminder he can speak volumes without a vocal in sight.
This 2LP Blue Translucent Vinyl pressing opens the mix up; imaging feels wider and the low end sits deeper, so the contrasts between clang and hush land properly. Sequenced over four sides, it breathes in a way the old CD never did.
File it next to Rush’s Counterparts/Test for Echo era and the taut weirdness of Primus, but expect more shadow, more scrape, and a puckish sense of humour. If you’d rather order from home, you can buy Alex Lifeson records online with us. For Melbourne guitar tragics, it’s also a neat study in tone—clean lines one minute, scorched earth the next.
Not every experiment hits, yet the mood holds and the playing is quietly outrageous. The blue finish looks sharp on the shelf, but it’s the detail you’ll come back for. Buy Alex Lifeson records online today or call past Preston to grab a copy.
